Ugg waterproof
This winter I were living in the UGG Boots Women boots I made last summer. Haven blogged them before now because they're, To be truthful, Repugnant. They have really come into their own as the most strikingly warm footwear I ever worn. Are snug, Light-weight, And essentially perfect. Thrilled to make sure you report that homemade footwear really can be practical. You like to have a go, Here where to search.
(Anyway, In no way thought felted before, So made heaps of glitches, But was determined to begin with the boots I wanted,? nstead of practise on a scarf. So reduce me if I broken any felting laws or norms.)
The first step is to earn a template out of a couple of plastic placemats, Which I stuck within gaffa tape. Template really should be about 30% bigger than the finished UGG Boots Sale UK boots, To allow for shrinking. I doing both boots all at once, And can cut them apart later.
Plus i got some bubblewrap. Can see I drawn around web site and left an outline on the bubblewrap showing where web site will go. How are you affected is I lay fleece down on the bubblewrap, Filling an area slightly larger than website, Then put website on top, Fold the fleece over the perimeters, And set more fleece on top. It gets rolled away in the bubblewrap ready for felting.
I needed my boots to be black, So the outter layer is black alpaca fleece which an associate gave me. I placed down a nice thick layer of sheep fleece, Also from a colleague. Sheep wool is especially strong so good for footwear. Alpaca by itself probably wouldn be sufficiently strong. For ultrawarmth and real actual smooth, I made the inner layer angora fur from my bunnie. Used up the fur I had hanging out that had been stained by wee, Or had knot it in, Or was way short for spinning. The layers had to go this way: Bubblewrap, Outter black clothing layer, Room sheep layer, Inner angora film, Web theme, Inner angora clothing layer, Gathering place sheep layer, Outter black covering. Wanted thick boots so I used significant fleece.
I made one here. Needs to have carded the alpaca fleece(Fluffed it up and teased it out with very unusual brushes called carders). I didn card the down, It seated in clomps, And it didn felt such as well, As you will understand later.
In the above photo you may I laid out the first layer of black, The lamb layer, And offer started adding the angora layer.
Now all three on first layers are down, I added web site and folded over the angora fleece, And am adding the angora layer.
Now all the fleece is arranged around web site, And it following for felting. See in the the top photo a piece of black netting. Lay this on top and tuck the perimeters under. Keeps the fleece instead while I working.
Here the nettingwrapped down, Wanting to felt. Drizzled this with dish-washing detergent, Then poured cups of very domestic trouble over it, And rolled away the bubblewrap, Wool, Coming up and all. Laundry detergent helps it felt better. Domestic trouble helps it shrink. Comfortable, Humid, Soapy and much of friction are the keys to felting well.
Once the bubblewrap was retracted, I massaged the roll with my hands for a short while, Helping the water and detergent spread evenly with ugg boots, And starting off the felting process. I unrolled it and with my hands I massaged the sides, Working the fleece with regard to middle so as to avoid having a flap at the edge. It was commencing to cool off, I unwrapped it and it seemed like this:
I was amazed by how all that volume of fleece just vanished. Can see the black coverage isn perfect afterall the sheep wool is showing through in a multitude of locations. This really is essential, I added more water, Rewrapped the problem, Explained, Massaged and usually kept doing more of the same. Approximately one hour or so, The fleece had obviously shrunk, And in fact was starting to warp web site. That occurs, It time to remove website.
I cut straight your middle so that I had two separate boots, And removed web site. I turned the boots really well. Is what they would look like with one boot turned through, The other one still with website inside:
During this period the boots were still enormous, Far too large for my foot. Dipped them in a pot of very very hot soap and water, Subjects it had just cooled enough, I stick them onto my feet. Put a stocking too much, And started forcing blood into my feet, To encourage the boots to shrink into my own, personal foot shape. Every dimming, They shrank substantially, But it took many dippings to get them down to the type and model I wanted. The stocking helps the fleece to require to itself, And not get rubbed into the wrong position by you. Boots on my feet, But without worrying about the stockings:
As now you will uncover, Ended up being a couple of holes, And a handful of the bits of alpaca refused to felt themselves onto the boots.
To apply this, I used a needle and thread to sew one particular bits of errant alpaca into place, And to sew some additional fleece over the holes. I persistent felting. Stitching wasn really obvious once the boots were done.
I wore them for a time, Then decided they must be a size smaller, So did another couple of rounds of hot pot dipping and pushing blood through. Wanted to get them as tight as possible yet still be easy to slip on and off.
I also would definitely make a sole for them. I laid out a superthick rectangular shape of sheep fleece, And felted that the majority of, Then cut the soles using this thick felt fabric:
I sewed the sole to the foot of each boot. Figured this comes to wore out, I have a new sole, Which may be relatively quick compared to making a new boot, So I promised myself to accomplish this repair before the boot itself started wearing a hole in the bottom.
The boots are really comfortable, Soft and nurturing. Only drawback is that at the house, We will need to wait outside to go to the fridge, The bathroom, Bathroom, To feed the wildlife etc. If I step up a tiny puddle of water, My hunter wellingtons get wet, So do my clothes, And it only takes them ages to dry. Through winter I ended up rubbing plastic rubber into the soles, And that has worked wonderfully. A modest amount of water no longer causes a problem, And the grip on the shoes is way better.
I pretty chuffed to have made shoes which has really gotten me through winter, Without buying products except the tube of silicon. Love that my toes are kept warm by my own diamond ring bunny angora fur(Which will be seven times warmer than wool), And that they are made by simple tools and technology. You can access some fleece, It worth the money they effort.
